Abstract

Recent developments in mobile technology and virtual reality (VR) have made it possible for students and teachers to engage virtual field trips using mobile devices, such as smartphones. This poster focuses on the development process to create a browser- based VR field trip. We explore the advantages of using responsive web technologies in the educational setting, lessons learned capturing 360-degree photospheres, and the types of user-interactions that are possible with a one-button Google Cardboard interface. This project is part of a pilot study examining the effects on pre-service teachers’ content knowledge and attitudes toward VR and museum trips before and after using VR to tour a natural history museum. Heat maps are included as a form of data visualization from the pilot study.
