Abstract

The Lamda community project was created to "use the Inter-net to support science and technology education" as part of the Israeli national program to "advance science and technol-ogy education in Israel." By the end of 1996 it had about 150 members who used a web site with 10,000 pages of content." The issue of leadership, as this paper will show, emerged as one of the critical issues during the last year of operation. The paper will analyze the issue of leadership in virtual com-munities and will highlight preliminary observations of lead-ership within the context of the Lamda community.
