Abstract

This paper demonstrates that while normal web searches present two-dimensional lists of results, to show the structure of the Web needs three-dimensions. Also conventional results don't retain the context of a page. Would a three-dimensional search provide a better method of visualising results. Three metaphors are described, a standard list metaphor, a building/room/filing cabinet metaphor, and a space-like metaphor. However, while attractive the space-like metaphor does not appear to achievable with current technology.
