Abstract

National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) adopted a joint position statement for “Technology and Interactive Media as Tools in Early Childhood Programs Serving Children from Birth through Age 8.” This position statement provides guidance for early childhood educators for using technology that meets Developmentally Appropriate Practice. The statement emphasized to use technology and interactive media appropriately can “optimize opportunities for young children’s cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and linguistic development” (NAEYC, 2012, p.1). Penuel et al (2009) indicated the use of educational technology shows positive outcomes on children’s learning. When young children use technology with guidance, it shows positive results for children learning math concepts (Clements & Sarama, 2007). This presentation will discuss 1). How to integrate iPad appropriately in early childhood classrooms, 2). How to select appropriate Apps for young children, and 3). Demonstrate free useful Apps for iPad/iPhone in Math and Science.
