Abstract

As with many other subject areas, online courses are increasingly being offered in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL)/English as a Second Language (ESL) all over the world. This brief paper looks at an online course in extensive English reading in Mainland China and proposes a plan for ongoing, systematic course evaluation. The evaluation efforts focus on the effectiveness of the course Web site, instructor/student satisfaction, and student achievement. Preliminary results of a student survey and their implications for future development and evaluation of EFL/ESL online courses are discussed.
