Abstract
The ECE ICT PL programme was a New Zealand Ministry of Education funded initiative stemming from Foundations for Discovery (2005), the Ministry’s framework for the development of ICT in Early Childhood Education. Sixty centres nationwide (Education and Care Centres, Kindergartens, Playcentres and a Hospital Medical Care Service) participated in the recently completed 3-year pilot that offered a combination of face-to-face and virtual professional learning opportunities. The teaching team in each service undertook a self-chosen investigation into their own practice, with a focus on building ICT capability and enhanced learning for children, teachers and communities. This paper will examine these Early Childhood Centres’ integration of ICTs into their teaching and learning, illustrating: learning outcomes for children, connection outcomes for parents, family and the wider community professional learning outcomes for teacher.
