Abstract
As social media becomes intermixed into the cultural of today’s students, it becomes overly important for professors to begin using social networks. As educators select materials for their course, it is also important for them to acknowledge online resources that are posting content in their field. Students are constantly searching for knowledge and congregate to individuals who give them access to pertinent information. This data is being shared through Twitter by users across the globe. If professors join the conversation and acknowledge other peers and organizations that are posting education material, they might be able to improve student achievement. In the following paper a review of previous research on social networking, and social media are chronicled to provide examples of the benefits of integrated Twitter into the classroom. Learning theories are intertwined into the framework of social sharing and community engagement to display a fundamental importance for using Twitter to increase learning.
