Abstract

This presentation will examine educational approaches which seek to increase self-efficacy and intrinsic motivation for "out-of-practice" postbaccaleureate learners, specifically those in the allied health care fields that serve older adults. Kolb's model of learning styles is used to showcase strategies designed to overcome barriers to learning. Research examining knowledge retention, student satisfaction, learning, and ability to apply knowledge to the field suggests that asynchronous discussion and problem-based learning are the most effective online pedagogical strategies for this student group.
