Abstract
Kyoto University of Foreign Studies teamed with Kyoto city and started the "Kyoto Research Project" from September 2004. The concept of this project is "adapting Kyoto's culture for foreigners".The project's aim is to provide information for foreign visitors to Kyoto while simultaneously improving university students' foreign language skills.In the project, students research the culture and traditions of Kyoto from the viewpoint of comparative culture, and present the results of this research -in one of seven languages- as information that is useful and attractive for sightseers visiting the project's website. We have developed a "digital portfolio" system for this project. Participating students gave a high evaluation to this project, asserting that they learned to be more aware of foreigners' viewpoints, developed their expressive capacity in foreign languages, and came to know aspects of Kyoto's culture more deeply.
