Abstract

The inclusion of people with some kind of limitation or disability in different daily contexts has been one of the mottoes of our modern society, as a result of the changes experienced over the last decades. Education is a clear example of these contexts and institutions must support students with special educational needs (SEN). This support includes physical and digital accessibility, interaction with peers, teachers and staff, adapted contents, Sign Language support, and diverse teaching and evaluation tools and pedagogies. This knowledge and experience existing in educational institutions must be shared within society, promoting awareness about inclusion and increasing the knowledge about concepts and good practices. Enhancing the potential of distance learning and the experience of Polytechnic of Leiria services in the SEN area, 18 short courses were developed in a MOOC format, under the designation of "Inclusion Cycle in 59 minutes and a few seconds”. The main goals of these courses were to sensitize a large number of people to the correct use of terminology, legislation and standards in the SEN and inclusion area; to improve knowledge about different profiles and different strategies for intervention and interaction. Based on the data obtained through LMS analytics, evaluation quizzes, surveys and certificates issued, it was analysed the effectiveness of the format and methodology adopted and the satisfaction of the participants who attended these courses.
