Abstract

Student retention has been a matter of major concern to faculty and administrators in open and distance education to improve the enrollment of students in higher education for a number of years. This concern has resulted in instructors and individual colleges undertaking activities to communicate with students to determine the reasons for dropouts and to attempt to find successful ways to improve student’s retention. The paper focuses on four major issues which are of major concern namely 1. Pedagogy 2. Sustainability of quality 3.Affordability and 4. Evaluation. Student’s enrollment depends on these four issues hence the present paper focuses on the strategies how to deal with these issues. A questionnaire evaluating the four major issues were distributed to a sample of 100 B.Ed students consisting of both the sex. From the scores obtained it could be possible to predict how exactly these four issues mentioned in the paper, when considered improves the enrollment ratio sustaining the retention factor.
