Abstract

This paper reports the design of a Chinese patient safety animations and its satisfaction result after showing to patients or family members. Five topics relevant to patient safety were included: (1) enhancing safe use of medication, (2) improving the accuracy of patient identification, (3) eliminating wrong-site, wrong-patient, and wrong procedure surgery, (4) reducing the risk of patient harm resulting from falls during hospitalization, and (5) reducing the risk of contracting nosocomial infections. Each topic contains: a front page with a title and objective; an exaggerated but likely occurred hypothetical story to draw the audiences’ attention on the importance of patient safety; and learning guidance to improve patient safety. The total length of video animation is 16 minutes 52 seconds. The video animations were presented to 144 patients or family members at the wards or clinics of a medical center, northern Taiwan. Most participants were satisfied with the video animations.
