Abstract

Digital storytelling can change the way teachers think about the teaching process. Digital stories can be used in two distinct ways in the classroom. First, the teacher can use the digital stories to teach the broad scope of specific concepts. Second, students can use digital stories to communicate successful knowledge construction. To use digital storytelling as an effective tool, pre-service teachers must develop a deep understanding of the process and uses of digital storytelling in the classroom. The use of digital storytelling by pre-service teachers is founded on a standards based approach that requires pre-service teachers to build stories based on specific academic standards as outlined by a state department of education or by the specific discipline. The round table discussion will consist of demonstrating stories created by pre-service teachers across the k-12 spectrum in Mathematics, Science, Language Arts, and Health and Human Performance.
