Abstract

The increasing popularity of blogging gives a rise to research interest on the educational use of blogs. However, the exploration into the educational potentials of weblogs is still at the beginning stage. In particular, the design issues of building blog-supported learning communities are under-addressed. In this paper, we present a design framework of building a learning community with weblogs. We elucidate the pedagogical affordance of weblogs in constructivist learning. The design framework underlying the development of learning community among preservice teachers in our study draws on design principles of creating constructivist learning environment and developing online community in general. Our work can provide general guidelines to community developers and educators on creating an online learning community with weblogs.
