Abstract
Significant resources are used when creating digital content for teaching and learning. Encouraging the reuse of material rather than recreating similar content could lead to greater return on investment and an improvement in the quality of material. Research thus far has focussed on technical barriers, with some discussion of pedagogical issues. This paper examines organisational and cultural barriers and digital rights issues associated with the reuse of material. We conclude that it is critical to address these issues in order for reuse of material to be possible.
