Abstract

In Semester 1 2004, the instructors for the undergraduate course Criminal Law and Procedure at The Australian National University (ANU) designed and delivered an interactive self-paced learning module on criminal procedure ("CrimPro"). This module consisted of a DVD and companion WebCT course site which was provided for the 240 students enrolled in this compulsory course. Students studied the DVD, other documentaries produced by the ABC (Australia), and the WebCT material during two self study weeks. During this period, students participated in two seminars. In Semester 2 2004, the CrimPro module was delivered to approximately 60 students in an elective course which used streaming technology for the delivery of the video material and additional scaffolding was provided for the students. Limited evaluation of the module was obtained using an online survey. The challenges of producing such a module and its impact are discussed.
