Abstract
The Handheld Educators Leadership Program (H.E.L.P.)is a collaborative project involving the Wichita Public Schools and the College of Education at Wichita State University that trains teachers how to integrate handheld computers into classroom instruction. Teacher education faculty and technology coordinators designed and implemented training for teachers in two elementary schools, one middle school, and one secondary school. Each school was given a classroom set of Palms and required to commit the involvement of classroom teachers in a year long training and collaboration project. H.E.L.P. teachers were required to develop and field test lesson plans involving handheld computers that could be shared with classroom teachers and teacher education classes. Presenters will share staff development plans, evaluation tools and standard-based activities designed and field tested by teachers during the H.E.L.P project.
