Abstract

This presentation/paper introduces participants to Math Snacks, an online program with videos and games accompanied by learner and teacher material. Materials are based on research findings on areas of difficulty for mathematics learners in grades 3-8. This project funded by the National Science Foundation includes well-researched trials with diverse and low-income students demonstrating gains in the learning of target concepts (fractions, decimals, ratios, number operations, and coordinates) with no differences in subgroups based on ethnicity, linguistic diversity, and gender. All materials are available free for use in schools, informal education and home use. Research on the effects of learning with Math Snacks will be shared with participants followed by a guided tour of the website by the presenter.
