Abstract

While online courses play a major role in higher education, mixed mode classes with multi-sites have been growing increasingly more popular in many institutions to cater to students who learn better in traditional learning environments and who live in rural or remote areas where environmental and infrastructure challenges obstruct learning. Mixed mode learning combines traditional classroom learning with online instruction and/or other media. Usually, video conference rooms are used for delivering a mixed mode course with multiple sites; however, it is hard to interact with students who are not physically in the classroom while meetings take place in the classroom. According to Miyazoe and Anderson (2010), students ranked a higher value on both interaction with teachers and classmates in face-to-face courses and learning contents in online courses.
