Abstract

This paper reports the conceptual framework, cyber-infrastructure, and measures of effectiveness of a state-wide e-mentoring program in development at a Midwestern university. The purpose of this program is to support the transition of novice special educators into the field through a university-statewide collaborative partnership. By combining the benefits of a course management system with open source components such as dyad and communal wikis as well as synchronous and asynchronous communication, the novice special educators are able to access relevant resources, obtain immediate feedback from the mentors and other participants within the e-mentoring community, and engage in ongoing professional development.
