Abstract
In this paper two patterns of ICT-based pedagogical innovations are presented and analyzed: "islands of innovation" and "school-wide implementations." Our study focused on: levels and domains of ICT-bases innovation within schools; communication agents and school variables affecting the diffusion of the innovation; and roles of factors affecting the diffusion and scalability of the innovation. We ran secondary analysis of data collected in ten Israeli schools within the framework of two international studies: IEA's SITES Module 2, focusing on innovative pedagogical practices at the classroom level, and the OECD's case studies of ICT and organizational innovation, which focused on ICT-related innovations at the school system level. We explored the question of continuity between the two types of diffusion patterns identified. To conclude, we discuss the unique value of each innovation, compare them and elaborate on similarities and distinctions between the two ICT implementation patterns in schools.
