Abstract
Professional development is the most significant tool available to directly impact the instructional effectiveness of teachers (Loucks-Horsley, et al., 1999). Loucks-Horsley, et al. (1998) identified courses as possible effective structured opportunities for educators to learn outside the classroom. This presentation and paper provide a description of some best practices from an online master's in mathematics education program designed to improve secondary teachers’ mathematics and pedagogical knowledge and instructional practices. Examples of lessons learned and identified best practices related to synchronous online course delivery, collaborative statewide partnerships, and the integration of innovative online technologies and instructional practices will be shared at the conference.
