Abstract

This article presents finding that emerged from a study of 24 in-depth interviews conducted with teachers who were candidates for an ICT Leadership Award granted by Israel’s Ministry of Education. Using a qualitative methodology, the study attempted to identify teachers’ motivational characteristics and patterns of empowerment. The resulting indicated a change-inducing empowerment pattern. These teachers excelled at restructuring ideas and plans for ICT implementation in their schools. Factors internal and external to the work environment contributed to this pattern. As an external factor, ICT helped accelerate the restructuring process; as an internal factor, it enabled teachers to form a strong professional identity based on their role as ICT implementers and to lead system-wide projects in their schools.
