Abstract

For most students in the Department of Information Management, "calculus" has always been one of the most difficult courses to study. Although calculus teachers often use visual aids to demonstrate concepts, students usually do not have the ability or enough information to understand. It has always been the major concern for the calculus teachers to find a way to solve the problem. Due to the promising multimedia and web technology, calculus teachers will be able to demonstrate abstract concepts in a understandable manner, to provide step by step guiding on how to solve calculus problems, and to monitor students' problem solving pattern in problem solving activities. The purpose of this study is to design a web-based calculus learning environment focuing on the differential calculus. The framework of the environment will be discussed. The effectiveness of this learning environment will be evaluated in the next school year.
