Abstract

This paper describes a system for providing audio-enhanced animated lecture notes on a mobile device for students to learn from, consult and revise. It can be used at home, on the move or in the coffee bar. The notes exploit the dynamic and multimedia functions of the mobile device and complements material seen in the lecture theatre and available on the department's main computers. The paper briefly describes how the notes are created for the mobile device and what access and navigation functions are currently available, including a search facility over displayed text and spoken narrative. A preliminary study of the use of the system indicates that it is a viable alternative to paper-based lecture notes.
