Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore faculty adoption of essential technology tools in distance education. We also seek to understand the trend of faculty technology adoption in the last four years at our institution. In 2013, 152 faculty from our institution completed a survey provided by Babson Survey Research Group that focused on practices related to online education. In 2017, 114 faculty from our institution completed the same survey. We ran descriptive analysis to include means, ranges, and percentages. A series of two-sample t-tests were conducted to compare the results from 2013 vs. 2017. Findings indicated that faculty had integrated a range of technology tools in their online classrooms including e-textbooks, lecture capture, Learning Management System, videos, simulations and so forth. In addition, faculty technology use had increased significantly over the last 4 years. The results also unveiled future trends of technology use in distance education.
