Students’ Scientific Epistemological Views and Their Online Information Searching Strategies

This paper is to present a study exploring the relationship between students' scientific epistemological views and online information searching strategies. Subjects were 145 Taiwan high school students. During an online searching activity, they were asked to answer three scientific questions. A posttest including two instruments, the Online Information Searching Strategies Inventory and the Scientific Epistemological Views Instrument, was then administered to all subjects. The correlation analysis found that students' online information strategies had significant correlations with their scientific epistemological views, especially with the views toward the inventive and creative reality of science and toward the changing feature of science. Besides, the ANOVAs showed there were significant differences existed between the high and low level of SEV groups regarding students' online information searching strategies, especially the Trial & Error and Evaluation strategies.
