The University Learning Network: A means for associating open educational resources to competencies

To respond to the need for access to an organized set of educational resources that aid in the learning process, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) put in place a technological platform that associates high-quality open-access digital educational resources to the various elements of the curriculum, facilitating it adoption and use. This platform, named The University Learning Network, provides an academically-validated alternative to sites that are popular for the students, but provide questionable resources and information. After a period of adoption, learning, and adjustments, it gained the interest of other universities, and became a national or even Latin American project. The present work describes how the platform has been adopted and adapted by the National Association of Information Technology Education Institutions (ANIEI) to associate open educational resources to the competencies identified in each one of their four reference curricular models. This effort will allow the member institutions to share resources even before the curriculum has been designed or updated, so that an appropriate comprehensive collaboration effort may benefit all the stakeholders.
