Student Teachers’ Ambition for ICT Use to Teach Foreign Language Activities in Elementary Schools

Abstract
Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) revised the Course of Study for elementary schools in March 2008, and it was implemented from fiscal year 2011. “Foreign Language Activities” for grade five and grade six students at the elementary school level were newly introduced to enhance foreign language education. We conducted a survey on student teachers’ ambition for ICT use to teach “Foreign Language Activities” in elementary schools. Student teachers who have experience to learn “Foreign Language Activities” and have experience to observe it with ICT seem to have more concrete image and idea for activities with ICT based on their observation on foreign language activities in elementary schools. They use the specific words like “the interactive whiteboard”, “the tablet device”, and “the digital textbook” in their ideas.
