Abstract

Abstract: Models of professional development for teachers have been criticised for not being embedded in the context in which teachers are familiar, namely their own classrooms. This paper discusses a 3-tier Award system used to scaffold teachers’ professional development in online learning. A 4I-model maps onto the award system and illustrates the stages in professional development in online learning starting with the Integration into teaching, moving to Inclusion of others and finally the Immersion and Infusion stages of online learning. An evaluation of the use of the Continuous Practice Improvement programme (Schifter, 2008) for delivering the highest level Award is included.
