University EFL Students’ Learning Strategies On Multimedia YouTube

The study emphasizes the need to integrate videos into the curriculum of teaching English as a foreign language when English native speakers and authentic materials are not sufficient. This study was to investigate comprehension strategies used by English learners who viewed an authentic Youtube video on the World Wide Web on computer. 81 students with four different majors (Physics, Architecture, Law, and Social Welfare) taking the Freshman English course in a private university in Northern Taiwan participated in this study. The questionnaire data were analyzed through percentage calculation. The results were focused on two themes: (a) the most frequently used strategies to obtain the target verb or ingredient, and (b) the least frequently used strategies to obtain the target verb or ingredient, along with (c) differences in strategy application among the four colleges. At the end of the paper were instructional suggestions with regard to research results.
