
Personal Computer Operation as Weak Point of Elderly People, Based on Novice Expert ratio Method

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to prove the reason “the elderly people are hard to operate a personal computer (PC)”. In order to accomplish the purpose, we made a test using Novice Expert ratio Method (NEM) to calculate the operational hold time of PC for the older and young persons. As a result of the test, it was found that the main factors that the older persons seemed to be hard to operate the PC were the difficulty to take in/out information for selection due to a shortage of mental model for on-system feedback visibility and the mis-operation caused by a lowering of their recognition ability and knowledge amount.
