Abstract

A design of object-oriented architecture for a learner-adaptive self-learning environment is described in this paper. The design goal of this architecture is to provide a flexible self-learning environment that ensures both function extensibility as well as content reusability. The concept of a “courseware object”, which is a program module that is used to incrementally implement various educational functionalities, has been introduced to achieve this goal. The basic behavior and interaction scheme of courseware objects was investigated to implement several learner-adaptive systems including the SCORM 2004 standard specifications.
