Abstract

Despite that benefits associated with student-generated questions are well documented, most students have not experienced generating questions in their formal course of schooling and are not used to being problem composers. Under the premise that student-generated questions activities may be better supported within a large class context in a more convenient, unthreatening way, an online learning environment that accentuates various scaffolding techniques is being designed and developed. The perceived effectiveness of the various scaffolded elements was assessed by a group of student teachers who are using the system as a routine feature of the “Instructional Principles” course. The data collected substantiated the developed system in providing a supportive learning environment for student-generated learning activities. Recommendations for classroom implementations and future studies are offered.
