Abstract

Tairona is a Java Web Start based platform for on-line meeting and tutoring that has been developed within the ALaRI Institute of the University of Lugano. It aims to provide an open source alternative for face to face synchronous communication between the lecturer and the students in remote locations, where different ways of meeting are not always possible. In particular, the application is tailored on needs of an uncommon scenario: in the considered institution in fact, teachers and students meet themselves only for the week necessary to give the course. In this paper we present the requirements that led us to design and implement Taiorna plus some initial usage figures.
