Abstract

Online communication is one critical component in a Web based course. To effectively conduct the online communication, appropriate communication tool is necessary, and the integration of the tool needs to be carefully designed. This paper will introduce (a) a synchronous online communication tool Skype, (b) strategies of integrating it into online learning environment; (c) issues that students had when using Skype; and (d) students' perception and performance of using Skype, and learning outcomes from Web-based courses.
