Abstract. Many teachers use computerized ("Power Point") slide shows as a primary lecture tool. The note-like structure and rich visual capabilities encourage teachers to think that such shows are an ideal medium for instruction - that may be an illusion. Slide shows can mesmerize an audience into remembering little of the content. However, slide shows can be created and used in ways that help the audience remember what was presented. To do that, teachers must pay special attention to the packaging of instructional content, format and design of slides, and presentation style and procedures.
