Abstract

In this presentation, I will reflect and discuss my topic from various perspectives: Curriculum perspective: education in an information society should differ from education in an industrial society. I will argue from a curriculum perspective how the notion of 'good education' differs in an information society differs from that in an industrial society, and that we face here one of the major problems in introducing IT in education. Change perspective: introducing ICT to enhance education can be looked at as a process of change. In this part a number of concepts and strategies will be discussed aimed at conveying to teachers and teacher educators of the need for a new meaning of good education supported by ICT and how this might be implemented. International perspective: the IEA (International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement) has conducted the Second International Technology in Education Study (SITES), consisting of a survey of schools and a large number of case studies of innovative pedagogical practices supported by information technology. Both studies provide a perspective on what changes we can expect when schools and teachers try to renew teaching and learning processes. Some results of these studies will be summarized with a focus on the pedagogical changes. Some national European perspectives: a number of differs European countries have implemented policies and programs to prepare teachers for teaching with ICT. One of these programs, called 'European Pedagogical ICT Licence' used in Denmark and a number of other countries will be summarized, as well as some experiences from a few countries.
