Abstract

The paper examines the impact of a short Logo programming module (and, for some participants, a further module on Lego Mindstorms) on pre-service teachers who are preparing to teach in elementary schools in Ireland; it addresses the question as to whether the short time spent on Logo is worthwhile. The students' reactions and reflections were recorded by means of observation, students' written accounts, and interviews. They indicate that the modules - while challenging - were enjoyed, and were felt to be productive especially in terms of geometrical understanding, problem solving skill, and insights into learning mathematics.
