Abstract

Foreign or second language (L2) teachers strive to provide their students with opportunities to use the L2 in communicative and meaningful ways through the use of technologies. Integrating technology into the L2 curriculum requires adequate teacher preparation beyond technology skills to create learning opportunities that reflect a clear connection among learning outcomes, activities, and assessments with the technological tools. This critical review highlights the fact that on the one hand, teachers develop and enhance their technological skills, while on the other, they lack adequate preparation to connect their pedagogical approaches to their technological choices to facilitate L2 learning. This review explores the approaches in L2 teacher education in empirical research studies published since 2000, and identifies areas that require further exploration of the intricacies of technology-enhanced L2 curriculum.
