Abstract

One-to-one (1:1) computing initiatives have seen rapid growth as school districts seek to equalize student access to technology and curriculum, and to equip students with the 21st century skills they will need to be competitive in a global economy. There is no questioning the impact that leadership has on a schools and that effective leadership in technology initiatives is crucial. Moreover principals’ actions directly impact the initiative and the teachers’ use of classroom technology and its integration. Yet limited research addresses the specific role of the principal in implementing a 1:1 initiative. Though this research presentation we intend to share the results of a phenomenological study designed to build an understanding of school principals’ experience in leading the changes associated with a 1:1 initiative and the contexts or situations that influence those experiences.
