Abstract

Social media and mobile technologies allow each user to have a presence and encourage a more fluid communication model. The purpose of this paper is to describe the benefits of using social media and mobile technologies in qualitative research. How can these tools allow qualitative researchers to gather data in ways that match the lifestyles of research participants? How does the use of these tools give a greater voice to participants? Drawing from the author’s personal research experiences, the use of specific tools in collecting and analyzing data as part of a constructivist research project is discussed, along with an explanation of how each of these tools function.
