Abstract

We have developed a learning-support system, called WebAngel, using World Wide-Web resources. Web resources are attractive for educational use but they are not completely suitable because they do not come with a guarantee of quality and are not well-organized. However, current filtering software and search engines cannot support educational use of diverse Web resources effectively. Students learn from the Web more easily by using WebAngel, and it can reorganize and adapt itself for educational use by modifying hyperlink structures and adding navigation toolbars to pages. WebAngel is a proxy server which controls students f browsing. It supports their activities by acting as an intermediary between browsers and the Web. We conducted experiments in a classroom setting to assess the effectiveness of WebAngel and we report the outcomes.
