In this paper we present the foundations of security in mobile e-learning by first looking at the various scenarios in which mobile devices can be used and what the specific security requirements are. We then present how various research efforts can be combined to address this issues. We show how mobile authentication and multi-level security can be used to implement basic requirements such as integrity, secrecy and availability. By doing so we also highlight how to address these issues in an e-learning context.
