Abstract

Designing online learning and teaching environments have been the focal point of educators and instructional designers. The purpose of this web-based educational product is to teach and facilitate the learning of a principle, water cycle, to secondary school students. Macromedia Flash is used to create an effective and efficient interactivity in a web-based environment. This product is based on a self-directed learning method, which is enriched with animations, videos, and practices. Another purpose of this product is to help learners improve their existing knowledge and recall gained knowledge using practices by watching show-and-tell videos along with instructions. The principle (water cycle) learning is also facilitated with experiments, which learners could try at their own pace at home with guidance in videos. This web-based learning activity forms a basis for innovative ways of online learning and conducting research about improving the design of online courses.
