Abstract

This study examined the factors affecting student retention in an online certificate program. In this research, a quantitative method was used. In order to collect which factors affected student attrition, the Online Course Dropout survey was developed and used. A Dropout survey was sent to 98 students who drop the program by e-mail. Twenty six students returned the survey. The data were collected anonymously. The data obtained through the surveys were analyzed by descriptive techniques. The findings show that the most important factor affecting student retention is finding sufficient time to study. Having personal problem and affordability of the program took second and third order.
