Abstract
The global teaching model which is predominant in the present-day school could be called "the class-subject-lesson system". This system was established by Jan Amos Komensky three and a half centuries ago. It is thought to have been enabled by the most revolutionary communication medium of that time, i.e. the book. The media that mark the beginning of the third millennium are hypermedia, accessible to users in the form of the Internet, CD or DVD. The global didactic system established by Komensky cannot meet the needs and expectations of young people and adults at the start of this millennium. They live in a new media environment and learning environment and, consequently, should be offered new teaching and learning strategies. This paper presents the basic knowledge about the influence of hypermedia educational technology on the selection and design of the teaching process for new generations of adolescent and adult students.
