Abstract
In December 2002, the U. S. National Science Foundation will unveil the National Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education Digital Library (NSDL). The history and goals of the project are briefly described. Technical, social, and economic challenges are reviewed that are involved in developing the library so that it will effectively impact learning in K-12. An analysis undertaken as part of the TeacherLIB project reviews the promises and challenges that remain if the library is to effectively impact student achievement.
