Abstract

This paper presents a discussion on mentoring strategies in an online learning
environment. Material has been culled from numerous research studies in distance learning
and practical experience mentoring over 150 graduate students in a learning and technology
program. Topics include what mentors should know about adult online learners, beginning
with the end in mind, developing goals, frequent communication of expected goals and
outcomes, fostering relationships of trust, and providing adequate follow-up and support.
