Abstract

Web-based discussions can be used to increase communica-tion among preservice teachers, however, course instructors must pay particular attention to various factors that create an environment where meaningful discourse with educational value can take place. This paper describes several factors in-cluding the intended consequences, essential attributes, and facilitative structures we have identified in our attempts to de-velop an electronic community of learners among our students.
